About this species
The Blue Velvet Worm is a medium sized Australian velvet worm known for its dark blue coloration and unusually complex social behavior. Adults can reach around 3–6 cm.
This species comes from the cool, humid forests of Australia. It lives inside rotting logs or beneath rocks, where groups may share the same shelter. It hunts small insects and other small invertebrates by spraying sticky slime, like other velvet worms.
Care is extremely difficult because Blue Velvet Worms are very sensitive to heat. They require cool temperatures and consistently high humidity. Heavily decayed hardwood, moss, leaf litter, and pieces of bark provide suitable shelter. Small crickets, roaches, and other soft bodied invertebrates can be offered as food.
Blue Velvet Worms give birth to live young. The babies are white when first born and usually hide together in groups beneath the substrate.

Guaranteed overnight shipping and arrived very healthy and active! Packaging was very well insulated with foam. They are a deep, beautiful blue color and a must have for any rare invert keeper! These species are very scarcely available in the US due to australian animal exportation laws. They also require cooler temps (I keep them between 62F and 66 F) which can be achieved via wine cooler. Peat moss and coconut fiber mix with lots new zealand sphagnum moss and cork and a drainage layer. They are also a smaller species, thus can be injured extremely easily, so keep handling to a minimum.
