About this species

The Buton Black is a rare Scolopendra that stands out for its unusually dark coloration and cherry red head. Its exact species has not yet been scientifically confirmed.

Adults are large and slender, commonly reaching around 18 cm. Younger individuals are usually dark chocolate brown, gradually becoming almost jet black as they mature. Their reddish head creates a strong contrast against the dark body.

Very little is known about this centipede in the wild. Some reports suggest that it may be arboreal, while keepers often observe it being much more active during the day than most tropical Scolopendra. It is also a powerful hunter that feeds on insects and other small animals.

Its care is similar to that of other tropical Asian centipedes. It requires stable warmth and high humidity.
